Distribution and Habitat
Breeds in Ussuri, Sakhalin, East China, Korea, Japan, and winters in northeastern India and Southeast Asia. It is a common summer migratory species that lives in reservoirs, estuaries, wetland grasses and reed fields of Korea.
Behavior
Move in between reeds for food. In particular, during moving season, they live in grasslands and reed beds with little crying. It forages for insects and larvae such as grasshoppers, flies and mosquitoes. In the breeding season, several males sit upright on the reed stems at a certain distance and twitter as if competing with each other. Nests are build among reed stems that are not very high in water. The spawning season starts from May and lays 4 to 6 eggs at a time. The nesting period is 14-15 days.
Characteristic
The upper body is olive brown, similar to a Korean Bush Warbler, but larger in size and different in twitter. Stained white eyebrows are sharper in front of the eyes. The legs are navy blue. There is an inconspicuous fine dark brown stripe on the breast. The tail is slightly long and has a white pattern on the end (often not visible due to feather wear)
1st winter plumage
It is very similar to the adult, making it difficult to distinguish. The upper body is lighter and more tan than the adult. Along the edges of the wing coverts, the second wing, and the third wing, the tan color is stronger than the adult.
Similar species
Thick-billed warbler : The bill is thick and short. The supercilium is not clear, and the color of the lore is loght.
